AN INTERNATIONAL ENTERPRISE WITH LOCAL COMMITMENT
Lafarge Roofing recently changed its name. How has this affected shareholder percentages?
The MONIER Group became an independent company as of March 2007. 65% ownership resides with French private equity firm PAI partners, and a 35% ownership vests in its former parent company, Lafarge S.A.
Of what value is the MONIER Group to the specifier who seeks quality products?
MONIER is the world’s leading supplier of both roofing and chimney systems. Our vision “To be the first choice in quality roofing” summarises our quest to supply the best quality product in terms of aesthetics, protection and comfort. Coupled to this is our commitment to provide a reliable service to our customers, delivered by an outstanding organisation and staff committed to excellent performance.
Does MONIER prefer to be active in emerging, or mature markets?
MONIER is active in both emerging and mature markets, and we will put suitable company strategies in place respectively. Our product and service offering is tailored to our local demands.
Describe MONIER’s policy of providing value-adding product features.
In mature markets, growth opportunities are mainly to be found in the renovation and service sector. Delivering innovative, value-adding features which answer customer needs are important drivers of MONIER’s success. An example of this is the German roofing market, dominated predominantly by renovation activities. There, the local business unit offers roof tiles with interlocking systems, which are capable of compensating for the irregularities of aged roof trusses. This translates into added value in that clients are able to cover an existing roof with new tiles, and possibly not have to renew their roof trusses.
The introduction of value-adding roofing materials into markets which stick traditionally to low-quality materials is also an area of potential expansion. The Marulelo® roofing system, here in South Africa, is a good demonstration of how a smart, standardised roof system for large low-cost housing projects can improve the quality of life of the inhabitants.
Tailor-made solutions
MONIER is in close contact with homeowners, craftsmen, architects, merchants, developers, governmental organisations and NGOs as just some of their main customer groups. All customer groups have the same need for aesthetics, protection and comfort. Consequently, MONIER uses their local experience, and the company’s internationally gained know-how, to develop a tailored approach to being a preferred partner for their local customers.
A common understanding of quality unifies this broad variety of MONIER tailor-made solutions, and sees all entities and employees dedicated to delivering the best quality in products, systems and services to our respective customer segments.
Company values
MONIER South Africa’s strive to become “the first choice in quality roofing” has lead to two commitments that define the companies activities and practice. The first is a commitment to quality products and services, and to providing outstanding value. The second is a commitment to build a culture and organisation that favours the development of talents, distinguished by excellent know-how and entrepreneurship.
MONIER Roofing SA aims to extend and embody the national and international successes of its parent company, and to become known as the most reliable manufacturer of concrete roof tiles in the South African roof cladding industry. By exploring new means of improving and developing products on an ongoing basis, the company is committed to continue supplying developers, specifiers, and homeowners with a range of concrete roof tiles and accessories as diverse and unique as the country we live in.
